What I’ve been up to….

I caught a cold that is somewhat bringing me down. But I’ve found a few moments to do somethings other than blow my nose!

That CPSIA is just ridiculous but Etsy is at least trying to make it understandable. I’m actually finding myself ranting a bit about it here at home especially regarding book printed before 1985! I’ve already emailed my congress people but I’m thinking that I will keep emailing them or maybe I’ll fax them since email has gotten me nowhere. Why? Because I refuse….REFUSE to pay brand new prices for farm clothes. People I shop thrift for a reason and I’ll be darned if someones idiotic idea that zipper pulls/buttons make farm jeans unsafe for my kids!

Babybooks: I’m giving up on the idea that I’ll be able to do a fancy baby book for Lil’B. (It’s bad and awful. If I think about it I feel terrible) Realistically he’s almost 5 – so I’m putting together a hardbound photo book. Happily this project is coming together pretty quickly. I’m already through the first 6 months of photos. Adding the text in will take a bit. But my goals is to hit the order button by the end of the month.

Knitting: I’m still working on my dishcloths. I finished one up! And started a second. I’d like to cast on for something new shortly but I’m somewhat thwarted by my no yarn – no needles money diet. I’ve got enough yarn for a hat and maybe just maybe my first pair of socks. I have to check needle sizes there and see if I can find a really super easy sock to start with too. In the meantime I’m enjoying the mindless knitting of the ball band dishcloth. I had to check the pattern a lot the first one but this second one I’ve only looked at it a few times!

Arrgh Mateys!

Cap’n Smartypants and our First Mate would like me take a moment to remind you that it is International Talk Like A Pirate Day!

T’would our plans be? Ye Ask? Here be just a few:
We be finding us some treasure (playing LOOT)
We be singing our sea shanty (really it’s School House Rock)
Why we be setting sail on an adventure! (Afternoon Piano Lesson)

Now avast ye mateys! Set Sail and Enjoy the Day!

Music Lessons

I finally made a decision about what class Lil’B will be taking this fall. I had considered putting him in Violin but we weren’t sure of so many things that I’m opting to wait on that idea. So Lil’B will begin in Piano. Perhaps he’ll transition later??

With Jr. it was seemingly easier. We plunked him in front of the piano and within days knew that we’d found something that spoke to him. Lil’B has always been a bit harder to pin down. This would be one of those moments where I’m sondering if my decisions for my son are more “right” than “not-right”. I realize that agony over the music lesson choice for a 4 year old probably seems a little silly.

So I’ll have two lessons this fall instead of one. That too has weighed on my mind whispering things about “busy”. I am determined to not overschedule us. But it does seem like I’m on standing in front of display with all these shiny, sparkly opportunities trying to pick the best choice for our family out of a dozens of sparkly, shiny, things. Which few things to pick? Which to leave behind? blah……..

But back to lessons. This I’m pleased with – I think. Their lessons didn’t match up at all for a same day option so I chose to have them be two days apart. To spread the driving and hopefully make it more likely that we can combine each lesson day with something else “out of the house”. We’re getting better at doubling-up though I still need some practice at getting to things on time. (Can we just say afflicition – late-itis is a chronic illness that flares up at odd moments usually with a small voice chiming “I need to go potty” directly after being buckled into the carseat or alternatively when a mama-brain chimes “you forgot “X” right after loading the kids up!)
