Ready for Recital…almost

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Was a busy day here getting ready for recital. Getting cleaned up and dressed up just a bit.

Finding our music and heading off.

We listened to 10 or so little kids and next up was Lil’B

I thought he’d be okay but then the last second he balked.

And Lil’B just couldn’t play tonight. He’s the type of little boy that is either going to play or not. And tonight was a “not” night.

Jr. on the other hand is getting to be a seasoned little player with this his 4th recital. He played lovely.

Lil’B played his piece at home quite lovely too. Maybe next time…that’s what we said when he was *so* upset. It’s okay. Maybe next time.

In other news it is now windy, windy, windy and COLD. Where did that come from? Or rather that’s what I get for not watching the weather!

Grace in Small Things #66

1. hearing from an out of town relative

2. pretty pink nail polish

3. grabbing the winter coats when we left tonight

4. plans to make cake balls

5. toasty covers on a cold, windy night

Music Lessons

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

I finally made a decision about what class Lil’B will be taking this fall. I had considered putting him in Violin but we weren’t sure of so many things that I’m opting to wait on that idea. So Lil’B will begin in Piano. Perhaps he’ll transition later??

With Jr. it was seemingly easier. We plunked him in front of the piano and within days knew that we’d found something that spoke to him. Lil’B has always been a bit harder to pin down. This would be one of those moments where I’m sondering if my decisions for my son are more “right” than “not-right”. I realize that agony over the music lesson choice for a 4 year old probably seems a little silly.

So I’ll have two lessons this fall instead of one. That too has weighed on my mind whispering things about “busy”. I am determined to not overschedule us. But it does seem like I’m on standing in front of display with all these shiny, sparkly opportunities trying to pick the best choice for our family out of a dozens of sparkly, shiny, things. Which few things to pick? Which to leave behind? blah……..

But back to lessons. This I’m pleased with – I think. Their lessons didn’t match up at all for a same day option so I chose to have them be two days apart. To spread the driving and hopefully make it more likely that we can combine each lesson day with something else “out of the house”. We’re getting better at doubling-up though I still need some practice at getting to things on time. (Can we just say afflicition – late-itis is a chronic illness that flares up at odd moments usually with a small voice chiming “I need to go potty” directly after being buckled into the carseat or alternatively when a mama-brain chimes “you forgot “X” right after loading the kids up!)
