Today I hugged my younger son because he was sad. I hugged him and took myself closer to hear his hurt that his bigger brother wanted time to play by himself. I watched as he struggled to find where he fit in a group of children. I put my arm around him to remind him he’s not by himself. This evening I held him close to ease the worries of the day and place in his heart the warm knowledge of love as he drifted to sleep.
Today I hugged my oldest son because he was upset. I hugged him and talked quietly to him about how he might better approach the problem he was having at that moment with his brother. Later I hugged my oldest child because he went on the merry go round one to many times. I hugged him while he talked about a new idea and his excitement bubbled over. I hugged him goodnight to squeeze in one more moment of the day to remind him that he’s loved.
Hug somebody today.
