Library Day

Today we bundled up and headed out to visit our local library. It was cold!! Much colder than it has been lately. It made for a chilly visit but it was worth getting out of the house. Jr. Picasso loves going to the children’s section of the East DSM library. They have puzzles. I enjoy it because there is a computer (library catalog) right next to the children’s section so he can play puzzles and I can look up books. Its a nice arrangement.

So Jr. P was busy playing in the childrens section, Baby Beethoven was chilling in his stroller. Alright he was really snoring! Poor baby was tuckered out something fierce! He napped the entire library visit which was actually really nice for me. Jr. Picasso picked out a couple of interesting books and I selected the Tale of Despereaux. Its a chapter book with no pictures but it looked like a good story to read aloud during the day. We’ll see if Jr. Picasso likes books without pictures.

It was a bit of a long day for me. The boys were both up at seven AM. Now this might not be very early to the average person but considering that I didn’t get to sleep (bit of insomnia) till around midnight and Baby B was up two times to eat between midnight and seven…..well it makes for a bleary eyed mama. Jr. Picasso zipped out of bed at seven doing his famous “I gotta go” dance. I am so proud he’s been working really hard on making it to the potty!! Luckily for me and Jr. Daddy was still home so he unlocked the gate and helped him out while I finished waking up!

So in light of the long day I am signing off to get some much needed sleep.

The sun was shining and the snow was falling…..

Weather:
It was a very strange day weather wise here. Several times during the day Jr. P and I would glance out the window to see our clear day suddenly get very snowy! Then the snow would dissapate and it would be clear again. Jr. Picasso kept asking if it was Christmas when it snowed!
Oscars:
Did you catch the Oscars last night? I started watching them but found them even more boring than usual. And that whole tv in the floor thing was completely annoying. I was entirely irritated with the lack of “previews” during the and the nominees are. Don’t the Oscar people know that is how I figure out what I’ve missed and how I know what to get from the video store.

Saturday Cartoons

Every Saturday morning Jr. Picasso watches his toons. Since we don’t have cable this is the only day he can see Nick Jr. Cartoons. So we spend the morning watching Lazytown, Miss Spider, Backyardigans, Dora, Little Bill and Blues Clues. Baby Beethoven pretty much ignores the TV except when Backyardigans is on. I am not entirely sure what this program teaches kids but it has music and dancing toons; so you can see why Baby B is interested. I personally still haven’t figured out what the character “Uniquah” is – - she’s a pink polka-dotted something??

Lazytown is supposed to inspire kids to action (play). But my little couch potato is thus far not swayed by the bouncing active characters. He is content to sit on the couch and grow roots till the cartoons are over. Thankfully we have worked hard to curb our TV watching so its less of a fight to get the TV back off.

Now if we (the parents) could just manage the same discipline for ourselve when we pop the TV on. It seems to be rather difficult to turn it off after our show. The beckoning of the dishes and laundry just can’t seem to over come the comfy couch! LOL
