Happy Birthday Baby

Things I want to remember: He planned his birthday party from the look of the cake to the activities of the day. He articulated his wants for the day clearly. He was our “King for a Day” but such a delightfully benevolent little King! His quiet compassion showed with his desire to have everyone take part in the fun. And the way he took time to invite all our household to his Art Party. He loved each gift he received. From his lego ship to the simplest of gifts he greeted them all with enthusiasm and *joy*. He shared his day with his big brother in so many small ways. What a fine young man he already is at just five.

Lil’B is my child of contradictions. He’s sometimes so gentle and orderly while other times he’s wild and unruly. He can be quiet while playing legos for hours or he’ll spend the day like a whirlwind through our house in a hurricane of activity. His imagination is so big that it spills out all the time. On those days quiet is not something he can be; there is simply too much to tell and share. He always has his music with him and will often spend time humming snippets of songs. He’s outwardly strong of character but beneath is a gentle and sometimes easily bruised heart.

He is my Hardy Rose. Strong and resilient but yet still delicate and beautiful.

I survived the birthday and my cake was really good!

We had a great day. A full and fabulous day with our little “King for a Day”. I will find a moment to post an update and get the pictures OFF my camera. I’ve been in the garden and running to various places: hardware store, grocery store, library. Seems I’ve not really slowed down since last Friday which makes updating tough.

But our little 5 year old had a great time with his Art Birthday. We painted and then we painted on watercolor paper! I’ll snag a picture of his art work too. It was fun to see how both boys liked the watercolor paper. I plan to cut the rest of the pieces into smaller sections to make it last longer.

They played freeze tag with Uncle K. and Daddy. I got a free pass because I had the wrong shoes on. Can’t play freeze tag when your shoes fall off all the time!

We ate food from the Asian festival! Daddy and I ran to the festival for food while the boys worked on Lil’B's new Lego Ship (from Uncle K.) It’s awesome and has been flying round our house since Saturday. It is currently parked in the place of honor also known as the clear spot on the fireplace hearth.

And then we feasted on cake! Chocolate cake with blue frosting. Decorated to Lil’B standards and hist drawing of his cake. It had “ruffles/stars” on the top and at the layer section.

A very good day!

Really Friday???

I’ve got a cake to bake for a certain someone’s party. I’ve got a house to tidy up for a certain birthday party tomorrow. I have art supplies to gather for that same little person who will be turning FIVE.

And I’m just kind of “blargh”. Unfortunately it is probably because we ate out (as in from a restaurant) one to many times this week. I was very good yesterday so I *should* feel better tomorrow but I’m still “blargh” today. These are the times I really begin to question the need to go out for dinner at all. In the cases of this week it was a “we’re running behind and it will be 8:30 if we eat at home” so we opted for convience. But that convience doesn’t really make up for the yuck of eating out. It’s got to be the oil changes and such that places have made in the past few years. I’m fine but not feeling real great.

In the meantime (meaning in five minutes from now until later tonight) I’m going to suck it up! I’ve got things to do and a party to get ready. We’re once again having that small family gathering by request of the birthday boy. Where I ended up with these lovely children that allow me to throw small parties I have no idea! But I’m not trading them for anything.

I am also hoping very much that the sun visits us so I can get a few good pictures of our newly minted 5 yr old!

More soon…I’m off to Hobby Lobby.
