Color in the Kitchen
This past week we tie-dyed some of our well worn and much loved shirts which was fun. But my real mission was to dye my kitchen towels. After a year or more of being on duty all the time, my towels were looking shabby and dull. So along with giving a few of my favorite farm shirts second life I gave my kitchen a new level of color.
Behold the candy popper fold. My friend made this one and it came out fabulous. It was instantly my favorite. So today I dyed the rest of my dull towels using this fold!
I folded a pile of towels to get varying degrees of this one. A basic rainbow using a fat accordion fold:
Fold in quarters and swirl twist:
These two are really that bright:
Psst: Twisted rope ends fold
Last but not least my second favorite result:
We had a blast and I now have a drawer full of color to keep me entertained while drying dishes!
A wheel on a stick
First there was the boy and the wheel on a stick.
The boys rolled the wheel on a stick.

Then the boy ran with the wheel on a stick.
The boys zigged and zagged with the wheel on a stick.
And the boy smiled.
A few weeks ago Gramps got out the “seeder” a nifty contraption that allows you to put seeds in a compartment turn the dial to the right seed and wheel it down the row to plant. Lil’B grabbed it and wheeled away with it. Unfortunately it’s a tool and not really meant to zip through the garden at little boy mph’s. There is a gear piece to it that is delicate give its age. So we had to stop him. Later than night Gramps and I got to talking about the upcoming Birthday when Gramps said “I should make him a wheel for the garden.” I agreed and in fact pushed him to do it. Such a simple gift but such a wonderful one too. The little wheel on stick has zipped in our garden, wheeled around the front yard and already experience two “accidents” necessitating a trip to the repair shop. The great thing about that is a simple gift is also simple to repair and before you know Lil’B is back zipping around the place again with his wheel on a stick.
