For Earth Hour we shut off our lights and painted our solar system. Here you see pluto and neptune.
The boys would like to note that “Pluto is the one that got demoted.”

Chesskers anyone? Lil’B playing “his way”.

Well those are almost real smiles instead of the “picture smiles” they’ve been giving me lately.

Grace in Small Things #75  – The Goslings Arrived Early Edition!

1. My dear hubby still being at home when the post office called in the early morning to say “your chicks are here”

2. Enough pre-planning for their arrival that we only had a few hours of scrambling to get things in the “ready” state.

3. The look on the boys’ face the first time they seen the new baby geese.

4. Our bathroom! It’s heat lamp and the electric heat of the house kept our unexpected arrivals warm until we had everything set.

5. Gramps who was a big help in getting things moved/shuffled toot-sweet!

Happy Birthday Charlie!

I was going to pull a few of the books we’ve used here at our Greenfield Academy. But the truth is I really cannot pull together resources better than Becky at Farm School!

Happy Birthday Charlie! May your data be corroborated again and again!

Homeschool Report!

I’m not very good at updating am I? Well in actuality that mostly because I don’t have much new to report. But for my own reference I’ll write some of it out.

First up and opportunity to run away from my ever so interesting report: Sparkly things at Etsy!

Still here? Fabulous! Let’s review:

Jr. is still moving forward in Math. We’re working on multiplication at the moment. He’s enjoying that very much. And I’m quite proud of my ability to remember my times tables on the fly when he pops out with a what’s X times X. Though I am still struggling to get him to understand that once you move into the billions Mama’s brain needs a piece of paper to handle all those zeros!!

Lil’B has surprised me a lot lately especially with his handwriting. I am thrilled that he writes so well for his age. I’ve got a few pictures buy have yet to upload them of examples. Jr. also has made much improvement with his writing. But what he’s been doing lately is focusing on spelling when he’s writing. I’ve noticed he’s been able to remember some of his common words too.

Piano goes very well for Jr. And he’s been working his way through an easy Christmas tunes book independently. Lil’B is proving to be challenging at home and sweet as pie during class. The little stinker. Both boys successfully played at the winter recital. Hopefully I’ll get the video uploaded soon.

Science has been fun lately but I am currently being thwarted by a lack of printer ink. I am just going to budget next year for two copies of things rather than try the “make a copy for Lil’B” way. We are currently working on making our human body book. After the Holidays we’ll return to planets and stars.

History is an interesting subject for us this year. We’re learning about the Normans and the Black Death. Lil’B keeps coloring ahead in his history coloring book then gets frustrated because he can’t color the picture Jr. is working on because its already done! We’ll deter a bit to catch a few subjects that aren’t in our curriculum.

Jr. is working on subjects and predicates in Grammar. He’s able to work much more independently with this now that he’s reading fluently. Simon is working on his letter sounds and has been consistently showing he knows most of the hard consonant sounds.

Reading to the boys has been fun lately. We’ve finished up the My Father’s Dragon series. They boys immediately wanted to read it again. We spent a week reading Roxaboxen at night. We’re returning to the Dragon Slayer’s Academy series again this week.
