If you need me…I’m in the garden

Our original Friday plans erroded over the week culminating in the Tiller Man’s schedule saying Friday was the day for our big till of the season. I now have a fabulous amount of dirt to work in for the year.

Things we did yesterday:

Plotted out the boys’ plots (15ft plots).

Had a discussion on why the popcorn and the pumpkins really should not be IN the small plots.

Discussed where the vine crops would go instead.

Planted onions

Planted radishes

Jr is actively working his little plot and gets mad when the dog (Harley) goes tearing through it. Lil’B is enthusiastic and has enjoyed digging in his plot. I’ll have to remember to convince him to leave a square free of plants for him to just dig in!
Pictures soon!

Treasures

Some of our treasures from the past week’s projects. We have been kept quite busy with several outdoor projects. My chickens are the proud little owners of a new fenced run. The deer will soon learn that the fence we are putting around the garden is for them! (electric :D ) Harvest is now upon me in many small ways. I lost out on my strawberries with the move of the bed and I left the rhubarb – because I couldn’t think of anything to do with it sans strawberries! Enjoy our photo bounty (yay batteries!)

Earthy Week Day 3: A Berry Good Day

Today we worked in the garden moving my strawberry patch that has been invaded by clover. Last year the clover just went nuts and we knew by the end of the season that there just wasn’t going to be a way to get it out of the existing patch. So today we started digging up the baby plants and moving them to the new bed.

It was a good day of family and sunshine. And we’ve more strawberry plants than I know what do to with at the moment. We’ve got four nice rows already and probably can fill at least two-three more!! What a great patch it will be if they all get established and flourish! But now we are all tired from the work and sun.

Happily exhausted.
