		<description>I am having the same problem here, except probably on a much smaller scale. Our chickens have stopped laying all together and I have the dilemma of what to do with them. I refuse to eat them but they are just costing us money so may have to give them away. They had stopped laying during winter ( someone told me if you want eggs in winter you have to supply them with a heated house)  but then started again in spring. Now in summer they stopped again! I think perhaps they are too old as I was also told they only lay for about 3 years , I have no idea how old they are as they were grown when we got them. 

In your case, I would soldier on.  Its all new and I agree its best to know what you are eating rather than buying a bunch of injected preservative filled crap!  I would be happy to be able to be totally self sustainable as far as home farming etc but we simply don&#039;t have the room.
