Have you read any of the Magic Treehouse books? Jess and Matt loved them, Allison not so much. I thought they were kinda lame, but they had a lot of history in them, which made me happy.

James really liked Harry the Poisonous Centipede series (there's 3), a gentle adventure. He also enjoyed The Moongobble series was a big hit, he read The Amazing Adventures of Fergus Crane and liked it, but hasn't read the others.

For big series, he likes the Disney fairies, but I imagine not too many other boys would and Geronimo Stilton.

Awww! I am so missing this age with my boys. They just love to learn so much when they are little don't they? I had a few books they were really simple and repetitive for before Zak could read on his own. He memorized the words and would point to them as he "read" the books to others. He was so proud. I also recently made books with my little friend who I baby sit who is four. We made a "This is a ........." Book and an I can.......(eg I can run, jump, ride) etc. Each page has a corresponding picture so while the child is not reading per sei, they start to recognize the words and look at the picture for the word they do not know. Its really good for practice. And lots of fun to make your own books too.
