I know not everyone has a school room and our is actually more an all-purpose room. But the primary purpose of this room is to house the chaos that is our homeschooling. As some of you know and some probably do not we live in a multi-generational household AKA we live with my boys’ grandparent (maternal). Our housemates requested that we revamp the school room so that it was a more usable (welcoming) space for the boys because they were a bit tired of the kitchen table being held hostage by the craft projects. Thus here is a tour of our school room!

This is the main portion dedicated to the schooling. Sorry for the cruddy pictures this is the hardest room in the house to photograph as the lighting stinks. Its on our list of things still to change. And remember this is the “as good as I’m going to get it clean” version so please don’t mind our mess. This room is in constant use which means a constant state of getting clean again!

Here I’ll note my two favorite things of our room the Homemade White Board and the Chalkboard Table (the idea I stole from the Amy at the Foilhat. ) I love them! The boys love them and they get a lot of use. Even if it is just drawing three foot tall pirates and six foot long boats. The placemats are down to protect the chalk surface so I don’t have to keep washing and re-dusting the surface. But this also gives the boys clear “my space/your space.”

School Room 2

Here is the corner that houses my white board for notes to myself, the kids’ computer and one of my many piles of books. Also visible is the vacuum in “armed and ready” position for sucking up the nasty wasps that have invaded our house.

School Room 3
Here is the Piano and Pets area :D The dresser you see peeking from the side has our current completed craft projects on display. And the bookshelf houses the encyclopedias. The cage/mansion is the home for our ferret friends.

Jr.'s Desk Hoodie Boy

We’ve also managed to cram to small (old style) school desks and of course my own desk area as well. We do get a chuckle out of the fact we have desks since we don’t really use them at all for school. But we can’t deny that they are the perfect size for small boys who want to draw, cut and paste. You can see my dear husband at the computer in the picture with Lil’B.

I hope you have enjoyed this small glimpse into our all purpose room.

  1. I love school room photos, and I love your school room! Thank you for sharing! Cute pics of the boys, too.

  2. We don’t have a school room, but that’s more for lack of space. Before my dad moved in, we had a nice family room going in the basement, I put in a counter and cabinets, shelving, a bookshelf and computer, a space for my sewing machine, and had some chalkboard for the wall. Not really a classroom, but more of a project/workroom. I’ll get it back some day.

  3. Your area looks great! I love that giant white board! We were tired of the kitchen table being occupied all the time as well. That’s why we made our school room downstairs. It works pretty well!

  4. What a great school room!! Someday when we own a home, or just have more space I want a room of our own!! For now we use the kitchen table…
