It is that time of year again when the garden begins to produce bucket fulls of tomatoes. So part of the bounty of the day was actual produce. We washed up and sliced up a five gallon bucket full of tomatoes for sauce. I’m in the midst of smashing them at the moment. Or rather I will be as soon as they cook up enough to actually smash.
I am also experimenting with slow-roasting a batch for sauce tomorrow. I’ve had a request from Jr. for red sauce noodles. That doesn’t happen very often since he’s got a large aversion to the red fruit. So when it does come up I try to accommodate in the hopes of encouraging at least a tolerance of our favorite fruit that acts like a vegetable. If the sauce comes out as good as I anticipate then we’ll roast up another batch or two for the freezer.

The other part of the bounty for the day was that we actually crossed off a fair portion of what I planned to do today for schooling. And despite some whining at the beginning of each new task Jr. was remarkably quick to recover and get down to business. We managed to do a bit of copywork and talked about the formation of lowercase letters. Lil’B got in on the action too and scribbled all over his “letter Aa” sheets. They we picked our poem for the week and illustrated what we thought it was about. I’ll try to remember to post pictures soon. We managed to get math and reading done in the morning as well. Along with a few other tidbits of stuff. We’re still trying to find a good rhythm for the day and I somewhat suspect that to really get a good school habit established we’ll have to stay home for awhile. Or perhaps be as rigid as we were last year with our “off school” days. I’m still waiting to hear about Jr.’s piano lessons and we’ve yet to decide on music class for Lil’B.
But I am going to sign both of them up for a six week exploratory course in ballet and then a six week exploratory course in tap. If it sparks an interest we’ll find a dance class though I suspect that might be tad difficult here as most of them dance houses we’ve bumped into are pretty hardcore. But we’ll try if either of the boys are interested.
Well I’ve probably rambled enough now that my tomatoes are ready to smush so I better get to it. We’ll be processing our weekend picking of peppers tomorrow. This time of year its either “get to it” or “let it rot”…..literally!

Those are some good looking tomatoes!! We did grape tomatoes this year, but I’ve had a ton of them. I hope your sauce turns out well, it sounds yummy!
I hope you find a good school rhythm soon. I know it’s been difficult for us, but I finally feel like it’s coming together this week.

Joyce Maly Dance takes boys now. There’s even one in Allison’s competition team. You should check them out if the boys seem interested.
