Iowa was hit with a winter storm this last weekend and we’re still getting things back in order here at home. Its funny but being without of electricity for a day sort of shifts everything back a bit and since we aren’t used to being without power it also created a bit of extra mess!
Check out our newest photoshow it shows some of the tree damage and how much fun we had in the heavy wet snow!
I picked the old fashioned theme because I thought it was funny that way! We fare pretty well here with short outages. Gramps has a minor paranoia about being stuck out here which means we are a little bit prepared for things like this. We had our lamps going and the fireplace kept the living room warm. The kids got to try out Daddy’s new wind up flashlight (it rocked) and generally had a grand time. We did have to station a parent in the living room to keep Lil’B safe from the fireplace which made us wonder how the pioneer moms did it. We figure the kids just learned early that fire was hot and don’t touch it. I managed to cook up a pretty good dinner though I’d cooked ahead for the week so the main dish was already finished.
The sticks and tree branches will have to wait until spring or a least a nice thaw before we worry about them. The branch that fell onto our propane tank did slide down and fall off with the melting that occurred today. We did lose a branch that held one of our bird feeders but the bird feeder appears to have survived the fall. The boys finally made a snowman and with the plethora of sticks decided that not only would it have arms but also “hair”!
We’re thankful to the crews who worked long and hard into the night to repair our power and we’re keeping those still with out electricity in our thoughts.

Great photos! How fun that you all went out to play!
Are you ready for the next storm? We’ve already had snow this morning. Ugh!

Thank Lynanne! Been wondering how you guys are faring since I can’t remember exactly where you are geographically I wasn’t sure if you would have been affected by the downed lines.
We are getting ready here but haven’t seen any weather yet maybe we’ll luck out and it will pass us by this time round

Ours was out for part of a day (really only six hours) but we were worried we would have to spend the night with my in-laws.
It’s not looking too nice out there today, but I think we lucked out on not getting hit harder.
