We celebrated our little family Christmas on Christmas Day. The boys actually slept in until almost 9 o’clock which quite surprised me! We managed to slow them down long enough for everyone to run through the basic morning routine (potty/diaper, contacts etc) before we checked out the tree.

Jr. and Lil’B both dashed over the the Santa presents which he kindly left in front of the trees resplendent in all their unwrapped glory. Jr. found his name tag and promptly sat down to play with his new castle. Lil’B took one moment to check out his little camera then went to play with Jr! The camera was slow to catch on but I think he likes it since he’s already taken over 100 pictures mostly of the floor!!

It was awhile before the boys decided to check out what else was under the tree and I think that was my best Christmas present! I very much enjoyed our morning and its slow, easy pace. The boys savored the moment and found enjoyment in watching others open their gifts.

The boys each got a new board-type game both which we’ve played a bit. Lil’B received Leap A Round which he enjoys mostly by laying on the mat or finding things that we yell out. Jr. does very well with the actual game and enjoys making much ado about getting himself into pretzel-like moves. Jr. received the Usborne Learning Palette which he is checking out between jaunts to his craft projects and other more interesting toys. I though am very pleased with it and plan to utilize it a lot.

We introduced our sons to the “evils” of video games with our family gift of a used gamecube. Its behind the newest game systems but we are okay with that. We only have one game at the moment that they can play (Monkey Ball) but we are getting a few to review from the Video Store. I am hoping to find a couple that are entertaining but not overly filled with death and mayhem. We’ve got a few ideas but want to check them out before we buy them.

We also added to our movie collection this Christmas somewhat out of desperation of watching the same movies over and over and over and over. We added James and the Giant Peach, Treasure Planet, and Chicken Little. Along with those came a Little Einstein video that I am strangly happy with. Its terrible Dora The Explorer like which I loathe but the combination of classical music, famous art and general historical/geographical trivia bits seem to redeem it.

All in all our Christmas Day was very enjoyable indeed. The next installment will be all about the crazy that is family and what happens when you add seven children x one full christmas tree!

One Response to “Christmas In Review - Part 2”

  1. When you go to the video store, check out Animal Crossing. Thomas loves it, and it’s not violent (that I remember) It’s rated E. Thomas has a blast playing that game. I think it would be very suitable for younger kids as well.
