Our friends recently had a new baby. A baby boy who happens to be the same size as our own Lil’B was way back when he was born. We’ve been to see them twice and each time I marvel that my boys were ever that small. It also brings a twinge to my heart because its so very obvious that my baby is hardly a baby anymore.
I am so happy though for our friends and will be sure to delight in every opportunity I get to hold the new boy wonder. I was especially excited because I get to make my new favorite baby gift the two-ply-flannel blanket square.
Though I can’t claim that I got the idea on my own an aqaintance gave me one when Jr. was born. Not only did that blanket become his “blankie” it was also my favorite too. It was big enough to cover the carseat and the baby. To cover the toddler and leave a corner to flop over his head. And it was big and warm enough to last as the main blanket for our boy Jr. until he turned five. Jr. finally needed to upgrade his blanket from his “blankie” as it was no longer long enough to cover all of him at night.
So I dashed out picked up some adorable flannel and whipped out a blanket for the new baby. Hopefully it will be as wonderful a gift for them.
