Lil’B had a bright idea the other day to get into the vaseline (aka ointment) while I was eating my supper. I was in the kitchen when Jr. yells “Mom Lil’B has the ointment” I replied back with a “what?” because I missed the word “ointment” and though Jr. was just complaining his brother had a toy. He yelled that his brother had something again so this time I got up to see what it was he had. As I came around the corner my little muchkin took off for the couch. (Behind the couch is his favorite hide spot for anything he’s not to have.) He throws what he has and promptly puts his hand on his head wiping “ointment” all over his hair.
This is where it gets yucky. You see Lil’B has beautiful hair.
At its longest it is about three inches long.
And it was covered with vaseline…..two handfuls to be exact.
I didn’t have the presence of mind to grab the camera though so no pictures of the actual deed.
Here is a normal shot of his beautiful self:
And here are a couple shots taken this morning of his still greasy head of hair. And we have washed it three times in the past two days.

This is much more traumatic for me than Lil’B. I think beyond the irritation of mommy scrubbing the heck out of his hair he is actually not affected at all. I on the other hand am feeling blue. You see I am often touched my my childrens heads. When they snuggle. When we read books. When I carry Lil’B anywhere. And at the moment my beautiful snuggly little boy has a head full of yuck. I am figuring it could possibly take a full week to get all the vaseline out of his hair.

You might want to try dishsoap to break down that nasty grease. Dawn is the best, but any good one should work and won’t hurt his hair.
Aren’t kids such wonderful adventures?

Oh dear, oh dear!
I’ve heard of using cornstarch or baking soda to remove vaseline (when applied intentionally to treat lice (ewwww…)) Then, if your son’s skin isn’t overly sensitive, try head and shoulder’s shampoo to remove the residue.

Have you tried vinegar? It sounds gross but it might be able to cut the grease.
